We begin to investigate the properties of fermented milk and take the first steps to develop a tasty yogurt drink that could be part of a healthy diet, on a daily basis.
We discover our own culture, and name it L.casei Danone. We create a unique slow fermentation process that takes over eight hours***, allowing the cultures to grow in the best possible conditions. This means we can pack billions of these cultures into every bottle, creating a super-concentrated yogurt shot.
The iconic Actimel bottles are launched in Belgium, followed by the UK and Ireland in 1999. The world quickly takes this dinky drink to its heart.
In just six years, Actimel has expanded around the world, helping people in 20 countries stay strong every day.
Actimel gets even more active ingredients with the addition of vitamins B6 and D to help support the normal function of the immune system.
